Jeffrey H. Orleans, executive director of the Ivy Group Presidents Council, has announced that he will step down and retire effective June 30, 2009. A search for Orleans’ replacement will commence in the fall of 2008. He has served as the executive director for the last 24 years. As the executive director, Orleans has served as both the CEO of the Ivy League athletics conference and has shown support for non-athletics Council initiatives.
I believe that Orleans has made the right decision in making his retirement announcement now instead of waiting until 2009. I feel that this will allow the Ivy League Presidents Council to take their time and find the right successor for the job. Orleans’ dedication and commitment to furthering the NCAA is evident through his many years of loyal service as executive director, and he will be missed by members of the organization.
