Tennesse Breaks UConn's Six-Week Hold On No. 1 Spot

Tennessee, which remained once-beaten thanks to a controversial win over Rutgers on Monday night, climbed to the top spot in this week's ESPN/USA Today women's basketball coaches poll, supplanting Connecticut. The Lady Vols (22-1) picked up 27 first-place votes and 769 points to return to the No 1 spot. Connecticut (22-1), which fell to Rutgers last Wednesday, still managed three first-place votes and 734 points to easily remain second. The Huskies had been No. 1 for six straight weeks. Even though the Volunteers got lucky against Rutgers with a win they still are a good team and deserve to be number one in the country. North Carolina (22-2) remained No. 3, while Rutgers (19-4) climbed from seventh to fourth, thanks to the win over UConn and near-win at Tennessee. The Scarlet Knights lost at Knoxville, thanks to a foul call with 0.2 seconds left that gave Tennessee a pair of free throws and a one-point win.
