Northern Illinois Returns Following Tragedy

On February 14th a gunman walked onto the Northern Illinois campus and killed 5 people before finally taking his own life....

Last night-twelve days after the shooting, NIU returned to the basketball court which marked their first sporting event since that infamous day...

Everyone in the Convocation Center took a moment of silence while the Northern Illinois players remained in a circle with their arms linked with their opponents, the Western Michigan Broncos.

It was without a doubt an emotional night that was one step forward in the healing process. The Convocation Center was peppered with signs of support for the Huskies. For the first time since the 13th of February, the NIU fight song was played at an athletic event. And even the opposition wore black bands to show their support.

Although NIU lost the game 56-49, it didn't seem to matter. What this university had been through was something that can hardly be described in words. Last night was just step one in what will be a long process of healing for the huskies and their fans.

The players wont forget Tuesday's game....
