On Saturday February 23, 2008 the Memphis Tigers suffered their first loss of the season to the number two ranked Tennessee Volunteers. The Volunteers are now number one in the country followed by North Carolina and Memphis. This loss doesn't just snap the overall winning streak but it also affected the 47 game winning streak at home for Memphis. Tyler Smith hit a turnaround jumper in the lane with 28 seconds left to put the dagger right through the hearts of the Tigers and their fans. This loss could be essential for the Tigers that way they have a lot less pressure of being undefeated going into the March Madness Tournament. A loss now is a better than losing anytime during the tournament because a loss means a quick one way ticket back to your school just to watch the team that beat you go on further into the tournament.
